17 new asbestos cases filed in Madison County June 21-25

A total of 17 new asbestos lawsuits were filed in Madison County Circuit Court during the week of June 21 through June 25.

The following complaints were filed:

--Norvel and Dorothy Arnold of Texas claim Norvel Arnold developed mesothelioma after his work as a laborer on his family's farm from 1950 until 1953, as a laborer in the U.S. Army from 1953 until 1955, as a laborer at a boatyard in 1955, as a laborer at an airbase in 1956, as a laborer at HJ Heinz Cannery from 1956 until 1957, as a laborer at a dairy from 1957 until 1959, as an equipment operator at a grain elevator from 1960 until 1973 and as an equipment operator for the county from 1973 until 1993. The Arnolds will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-665.

--Tony Crimi of California, a seaman 1st class and a seaman 2nd class in the U.S. Navy from 1943 until 1945 and a laborer, press operator and carpenter at various locations from 1946 until 1979, claims lung cancer. Crimi will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-671.

--Richard C. Dwight of South Carolina, a member of the U.S. Air Force from 1953 until 1955, a laborer at DuPont from 1955 until 1968 and a seller and servicer of filters and filter systems for Carolina Filters from 1968 until 1988, claims mesothelioma. Dwight will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-668.

--Reginald Guy of Illinois claims the recently deceased Minnie Guy developed mesothelioma after her work at Entergy Services. Reginald Guy will be represented by Richard L. Saville Jr. and Ethan A. Flint of Saville and Flint in Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-660.

--Lonnie G. Hanshew of Texas, an electrician apprentice from 1965 until 1968, a laborer at the LTV plant from 1968 until 1969 and from 1971 until 1972, a high voltage electrician in the U.S. Army from 1969 until 1971, an employee at Montgomery Ward and Co. in 1971, a member of the Sweetwater, Texas, Fire Department from 1972 until 1981, a furniture delivery driver and set-up worker from 1973 until 1979, a sheet metal mechanic for Garner Mechanical beginning in 1982, a laborer for Abilene Sheet Metal from 1984 until 1987, a worker for Lockheed Martin from 1988 until 1994, a worker for Ski Hi Enterprises and Raytheon from 1995 until 1998 and from 1998 until 2001, a worker for Ski Hi Enterprises from 2001 until 2002, a worker for Rock City Mechanical from 2002 until 2003 and a worker for Abilene Sheet Metal from 2003 until 2004, claims mesothelioma. --James F. and Mary Joan Hensley of Missouri claim James F. Hensley developed mesothelioma after his work as a home remodeler, home rebuilder, roofer, tiler, drywaller and electrician from 1950 until 1979, as a shadetree mechanic from 1949 until 2009, as a demolition man from 1950 until 1955, as a laborer at a processing plant from 1955 until 1957, as a laborer for Pipeline Inc. from 1957 until 1961, as an interior designer from 1961 until 1970 and as a worker for Beckman Construction Company from 1970 until his retirement. The Hnsleys will be represented by Randy L. Gori of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. W. Mark Lanier, Patrick N. Haines, R. Craig Bullock and J. --Milford Hill of Mississippi, a laborer at Katy Railroad in the 1950s, a laborer in the U.S. Air Force from the 1950s until the 1960s, a laborer at Cessna Corporation from 1966 until 1975 and a laborer at Federal Express from 1975 until 1990, claims lung cancer. Hill will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-664.

--Shirley Howard of Illinois claims her recently deceased husband, Manule C. Howard, developed lung cancer after his work as a sheet metal worker for McDonnell Douglas from 1956 until 1959, at a paint booth in 1960, at General Steel from 1957 until 1972 and as a self-employed carpenter from 1972 until 2000. Shirley Howard will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-672.

--Leo Huzieff of California claims his recently deceased wife, Carole Huzieff, developed mesothelioma after her work as a home maker. Carole Huzieff was exposed to asbestos fibers through home and automotive repairs, maintenance and remodeling, according to the complaint. Leo Huzieff will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-662.

--Janice and Kent Owens of Florida claim Janice Owens developed mesothelioma after her work as an assembly line worker and operator at NCR Corporation from 1988 until 1991. Janice Owens was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through her husband, Kent Owens, who worked as an electronic warfare officer in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 until 1970, according to the complaint. The Owens will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-657.

--William G. and Ramona Penberthy of Missouri claim William G Penberthy developed lung cancer after his work as a member of the U.S. Army from 1949 until 1952, as a machinist for St. Joseph Lead Mine from 1952 until 1960 and from 1979 until 1991 and as a machinist for Meramac Mine from 1960 until 1977. The Penberthys will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-669.

--Francis J. Scheffler of Pennsylvania, a boatswain's mate in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955, a truck driver for Motor Frieght Express from 1949 until 1951 and from 1955 until 1982 and a custodian and maintenance supervisor for Swatara Junior High School from 1983 until 1999, claims malignant mesothelioma. Scheffler will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-654.

--Cleveland Shaw of Illinois, a heat treater, trackman, press tender and laborer at various locations throughout Illinois and Missouri from 1964 until 2000, claims lung cancer. Shaw will be represented by W. Brent Copple and Myles L. Epperson of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-656.

--Robert and Brenda Rush of South Carolina claim Robert Rush developed mesothelioma after his work as a shipfitter for Charleston Naval Shipyard from 1963 until the early 1980s and as a worker for BEA Systems from the 1980s until 1995. The Rushes will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-674.

--Frances Torres of Texas claims the recently deceased Pedro Torres developed mesothelioma after his work as a member of the U.S. Army from 1943 until 1946 and as a mechanic from the 1950s until 1984. --James Werner of Florida, a fireman, communications electrician and science teacher at various locations from 1961 until 1989, claims mesothelioma. Werner will be represented by Brian J. --Joe West of Texas claims his recently deceased wife, Phyllis West, developed mesothelioma after her work as a clerk and telephone operator at various locations throughout the U.S. from 1943 until 1980.
