A Madison County woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck her as she was walking near a road.
Anna Chatham claims she was walking east on the shoulder of Illinois Route 143 in Alton on Dec. 24, 2009, when defendant Deborah Sievers, who was driving a 1999 Dodge Neon east on the same road, struck her.
Because of the incident, Chatham sustained temporary and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs and has been prevented from attending to her normal duties, according to the complaint filed July 28 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Sievers negligently failed to keep a proper lookout for pedestrians, drove too fast, failed to exercise proper control and failed to brake, the suit states.
In her complaint, Chatham is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton.
Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-788.
