Injuries claimed in Greenmount Crossing accident

A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims struck him as he was standing behind his vehicle.

Benjamin D. Dorrington claims he was standing behind his car facing north on Greenmount Crossing Drive in Shiloh on Dec. 13, 2008, at about 9:12 p.m. when Richter, who was driving north on the road, crashed into him.

Because of the collision, Dorrington became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; suffered extensive injuries to his head, body, limbs, neck, right knee and low back; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed July 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, he suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering, lost wages and suffered an impaired earning capacity, the suit states.

Richter negligently drove in such a manner as to hit Dorrington, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast, failed to reduce his speed, failed to exercise due care to avoid colliding with Dorrington and drove without adequate brakes, the complaint says.

In his suit, Dorrington is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

He will be represented by John H. Hustava of Collinsville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-360.
