Caseyville woman claims dog bit and chewed her in street

A Caseyville woman claims she sustained injuries to her knees after her neighbors' dog bit and attacked her.

Lisa M. Mathews filed a lawsuit June 18 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Justin and Amy Wilson.

Mathews claims she had been walking her dog on Brookfield Drive in Caseyville when the Wilsons' dog attacked, struck down, bit and chewed Mathews in the street.

Because of the incident, Mathews sustained severe and permanently disabling injuries to her knee, suffered great pain and mental anguish, lost large sums of money because of her inability to pursue her normal occupation, suffered permanent disability and disfigurement and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.

She blames the Wilsons for causing the incident, saying they negligently allowed their dog to leave their property and go into the street, failed to warn Mathews of the dog's vicious nature and failed to control the dog.

In her four-count complaint, Mathews is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

Gregory M. Skinner of Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-303.
