A woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims rear-ended her vehicle.
Norma J. Love claims she was driving her 2006 Mercury east on East Broadway in Alton and had stopped for a red light on June 19, 2008. While Love was stopped, defendant Edward J. Barrett, who was operating a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado in the same direction for defendant Barrett Heating and Cooling, failed to stop and slammed into the rear of Love's vehicle.
Because of the collision, Love sustained serious and permanent personal injuries, including injury to her head, brain, neck and back; experienced an aggravation of pre-existing disabilities; incurred medical costs; and suffered pain and disability, according to the complaint filed June 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.
She blames Barrett for causing the collision, saying he negligently drove too fast, failed to give any warning of his impending approach, failed to stop or swerve to avoid the collision, followed Love's vehicle too closely, failed to drive with proper brakes and drove without keeping a proper lookout ahead.
In her complaint, Love is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
Douglas B. Salsbury of The Miller/Salsbury Law Firm in Eureka will be representing her.
