Injuries claimed in Frank Scott Parkway accident

A man has filed suit against the driver who he claims failed to stay in her lane, causing a collision.

Jonathon Carpenter claims he was driving south on Frank Scott Parkway near Llewellyn Road in St. Clair County on July 25, 2008, when defendant Elaine Lowery, who was driving north on the same road, struck him.

Because of the collision, Carpenter sustained severe and permanently disabling and disfiguring injuries to his head, back, shoulders, hips, arms and legs; sustained great pain and mental anguish; lost large sums of money because of his inability to pursue a normal occupation; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed June 2 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Lowery negligently failed to maintain her vehicle in a single lane, crossed the center lane when it was not safe to do so, failed to avoid other traffic on the road and failed to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, the suit states.

In his complaint, Carpenter is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Gregory L. Shevlin of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-274.
