City of Edwardsville sued by property owners over leaking water pipe

Two Edwardsville residents have filed suit against the city, alleging their homes sustained more than $50,000 worth of water damages after the city failed to timely repair a leaking pipe.

Raymere N. Oglesby and Maxie Johnson claim their properties at 407 Olive Street and 605 Hill Lane sustained water damages to the walls, concrete flooring and foundations, causing damages in excess of $50,000 on Aug. 25.

The damages were caused after a main water line sprung a leak prior to Aug. 25, according to the complaint filed June 7 in Madison County Circuit Court.

"The City of Edwardsville had constructive notice of the leak due to the length of time it was leaking," the suit states.

In their complaint, the plaintiffs are seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Mark Levy of Collinsville will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-594.
