St. Clair County Clerk of the Circuit Court Brendan Kelly announced that Cindy Prichard has been chosen to receive the first ever Deputy Circuit Clerk of the Year Award to be presented at the annual St. Clair County Law Day breakfast on April 30.
The award is given yearly on Law Day to honor a deputy clerk for outstanding service and contributions to the administration of justice in St. Clair County, Kelly said.
Nominations were based on excellent long term service to the bar and the public, some unique "above and beyond" effort, or both, he said.
Members of the St. Clair County Bar Association submitted nominations by e-mail. Several clerks were nominated, but Cindy Prichard received overwhelming endorsements from across the bar association.
"I know many members of the bar, including myself, have had a clerk rescue us at the last minute or otherwise go beyond the call of duty in court," Kelly said. "This is a nice way to recognize the important role they have in making a complex justice system work everyday for the people of St. Clair County. "
Prichard is the clerk for courtroom 109, the traffic and misdemeanor courtroom which processes hundreds of cases a day and thousands every year.
"I can recall many times when I was a young prosecutor how Cindy saved my butt in courtroom 109- and I know I am not alone in that experience," Kelly said. "I think Cindy is particularly deserving of this award."
