American Express claims a Highland man owes it more than $140,000 in unpaid credit card bills.
American Express filed a lawsuit April 8 in Madison County Circuit Court against Ray Schantz.
American Express claims it issued a credit card to Schantz, but Schantz has since defaulted on his payments.
"There is a balance due on said credit card account in the amount of $148,601.56, which includes interest pursuant to the Card Member Agreement," the suit states.
Although American Express has demanded the money it says Schantz owes it, he has failed and refused to pay the amount, according to the complaint.
In addition to the money it says Schantz owes it, American Express seeks attorney's fees, court costs and other relief the court deems just.
