Granite City pedestrian claims driver struck her crossing Madison Ave.

A Madison County woman has filed suit against the driver who she says struck her as she attempted to cross the street.

Pamela Garrett claims she was crossing Madison Avenue near its intersection with 21st Street in Granite City on June 4, 2008, when defendant Glen Chapman, who was driving a vehicle for defendant Murphy Company, turned onto Madison Avenue and struck Garrett as she was in the crosswalk.

Because of the incident, Garrett sustained injuries to her head, left leg and knee and the left side of her rib cage; suffered great pain and mental anguish; incurred medical costs; experienced an impaired ability to function; and sustained a diminished ability to work, according to the complaint filed March 30 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Chapman negligently failed to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, failed to keep a careful lookout and drove too fast for conditions, the suit states.

In her two-count complaint, Chapman is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

She will be represented by Richard J. Zalasky of Brown and Crouppen in St. Louis.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-359.
