Glen Carbon accident is subject of suit

A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says struck the side of her vehicle.

Hidemi Stewart claims she was driving south on Highway 159 near its intersection with Glen Carbon Road in Glen Carbon on Feb. 18 when defendant Leamon Anderson, who was attempting to make a left-hand turn onto Highway 159, struck the front and passenger side of Stewart's vehicle.

Because of the accident, Stewart was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled; received injuries to her neck, shoulder and low back; incurred medical costs; sustained disability; experienced pain and suffering; and lost wages, according to the complaint filed March 26 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Anderson negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove in such a manner that he struck Stewart's vehicle, failed to properly apply his brakes, drove too fast, failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and failed to yield the right-of-way to Stewart's vehicle, the suit states.

Stewart is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich and Kristina D. Cooksey of Fairview Heights will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-340.
