Lebanon homeowner suing man who set fire to his house

A man has filed suit against a St. Clair County man who he says set fire to his home.

William H. Hamrick claims defendant Cory Carlisle set fire to his home at 419 West Schuetz in Lebanon on Feb. 3, 2009.

According to the complaint filed March 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, Hamrick's insurance company, Pekin Insurance Company, paid him $86,680 for property damage caused by the fire. Hamrick had to pay a $1,000 deductible before receiving the money, the suit states.

On Oct. 27, Carlisle pled guilty to residential arson and is serving a seven-year sentence for his crime, the complaint says.

In his lawsuit, Hamrick is seeking the $86,680 for subrogation of the payments his insurance company paid him, plus the $1,000 deductible he paid, costs and other relief the court deems just.

John P. Cunningham of Brown and James in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-129.
