Semi rear-ends vehicle on I-70, suit claims

A Missouri man has filed suit against the semitrailer driver who he says rear-ended him on the interstate.

Max Russell Hollis Jr. claims he was driving south on Interstate 70 on Feb. 26, 2008, when defendant Kulwant Singh, who was driving a 2000 Kenworth Motor truck south on the same road, collided with the back of Hollis' vehicle. At the time of the collision, Singh was acting as an employee for defendant Sahota Brothers.

Because of the collision, Hollis was seriously injured, incurred significant medical bills, experienced significant pain and suffering, incurred lost wages and an impaired earning capacity and sustained disability and disfigurement, according to the complaint filed Feb. 25 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Singh negligently failed to reduce his speed to avoid a collision, drove too closely to Hollis, drove without operable brakes, failed to maintain a proper lookout, placed Hollis in danger and drove in an improper and careless manner, the suit states.

In his two-count suit, Hollis is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Matthew R. Davis of Heller, Gallagher and Finley in St. Louis will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-88.
