12 asbestos cases filed in Madison County Feb. 1-5

A total of 12 new asbestos lawsuits were filed in Madison County Circuit Court during the week of Feb. 1 through Feb. 5.

The following complaints were filed:

--Donald and Sharon Berlin of Ohio claim Donald Berlin developed mesothelioma after his work as a member of the Army Reserves from 1960 until 1961, as an employee of U.S. Phosphate from 1961 until 1962, as a pipefitter helper at Shannon Steel from 1962 until 1965, as a maintenance painter at General Motors from 1966 until 2006 and as an independent contractor at General American Transportation. Donald Berlin was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who was a painter and had contracts with Ohio Edison, Tampa Electric and Pennsylvania Power, according to the complaint. The Berlins will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-115.

--Laura Boyle of Michigan claims her recently deceased father, Angelo Cuchetti developed lung cancer after his work as a pipefitter and home remodeler at various locations from 1952 until 1979. Boyle will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-120.

--Douglas Bradford of South Carolina, a carpenter, laborer and maintenance man at various locations throughout the United States from 1957 until 1990, claims mesothelioma. Bradford was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, George Bradford, who worked as a laborer at ALCOA from the early 1920s until 1965, according to the complaint. Bradford will be represented by Brian J. Cooke of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-132.

--John L. Huff of California, a pipe assembler at Johns Manville from 1963 until 1964 and a clerk at the U.S. Postal Service for about 40 years, claims mesothelioma. Huff will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-114.

--Josephine Klapperich of Minnesota, a cashier, clerk, welder, nurse's aid and nursery worker at various locations throughout Illinois and Minnesota from 1940 until 2010, claims mesothelioma. Klapperich will be represented by Christopher P. Guinn of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-109.

--Judy McCoy of Missouri claims her recently deceased husband, Richard D. McCoy, developed lung cancer after his work as a laborer, welder, iron worker and home remodeler at various locations from 1958 until 1979. Judy McCoy will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-112.

--Larry E. Morgan of Missouri, a laborer, rigger, crane helper, welder, pipefitter helper, millwright helper, ditch digger, carpenter, track repairer and crane helper from 1958 until 1994, claims lung cancer. Morgan will be represented by Michael R. Bilbrey, Timothy P. Hulla, James R. Stever, Robert B. Ramsey and Michael V. Oltmann of the Law Offices of Michael R. Bilbrey in Glen Carbon. --Edna Sponsler of Ohio claims her recently deceased son, Gregory Sponsler, developed mesothelioma after his work as a laborer and truck driver at various locations throughout Illinois and Ohio from 1966 until 2009. He was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his mother, who worked as a machine operator at Detroit Aluminum and Brass from 1956 until 1986, according to the complaint. Edna Sponsler will be represented by Timothy F. Thompson Jr. of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-110.

--Gene and Mary Taylor of South Carolina claim Gene Taylor developed mesothelioma after his work as a painter, construction worker, laborer, operator and truck driver at various locations from the late 1950s until now. The Taylors will be represented by Shane F. Hampton and Paul M. Dix of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-123.

--Shawn Thomas of Indiana claims her recently deceased husband, Paul E. Thomas, developed lung cancer after his work as a laborer, steel worker and home remodeler at various locations from 1956 until 1979. Shawn Thomas will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd of East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-121.

--Benjamin C. Valentine of Missouri, a laborer and home remodeler at various locations from 1951 until 1979, claims lung cancer. Valentine will be represented by Robert Phillips and Perry J. Browder of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-113.

--Max and Renee Wotnoske of Wisconsin claim Max Wotnoske developed mesothelioma after his work as an automobile mechanic at various locations from 1953 until 2000. The Wotnoskes are represented by Shane F. Hampton and Paul M. Dix of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-130.
