Heidtman Steel sued by customer over icy fall

A man has filed suit against a Granite City company after he says he fell on ice on the company's premises.

David Maberry claims he was walking on defendant Heidtman Steel Products premises on Feb. 22, 2008, when he fell on ice that had accumulated on the walkway.

As a result of his fall, Maberry suffered injuries to his head, neck, chest, shoulders, upper and lower back, arms, pelvis and legs; suffered severe pain; incurred medical costs of more than $50,000; lost wages; and will incur arthritic development in his bones and joints, according to the complaint filed Feb. 10 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Heidtman Steel, a subsidiary of co-defendant Centaur, negligently allowed an icy walkway to exist, failed to warn Maberry of the icy condition, maintained the premises in an unsafe manner and failed to barricade the icy area, the suit states.

In his complaint, Maberry seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Cythia M. Hennessey of St. Louis will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-152.
