Man claims doctor performed unnecessary elective prostate surgery

A Wood River man has filed suit against Saint Anthony's Health Center and one of its doctors, alleging the doctor performed an unnecessary elective surgery on the man without warning him of its risks.

Walter Davis and his wife, Sylvia Davis, claim defendant Dr. Soo Cho performed a photoselective vaporization of Walter Davis' prostate on Jan. 31, 2008.

Because of the allegedly unnecessary procedure, Walter Davis suffered permanent and severe injuries to his body, incurred medical costs and was hindered from attending to his normal activities, according to the complaint filed Jan. 22 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Sylvia Davis claims she lost her husband's society, support, devotion, care, society and consortium.

Cho negligently failed to properly advise Walter Davis of the risks of his elective procedure and warn of potential complications, performed the surgery unnecessarily and failed to discover and treat the damage caused by the negligently performed procedure, the suit states.

In the three-count suit, the Davises are seeking a judgment of more than $150,000, plus costs.

Donald M. Flack of Flack Law Office in Wood River will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-67.
