A woman has filed suit against the driver who she says struck her as she was driving on the interstate.
Benetta Y. Johnson claims she was driving east on Interstate 55/70 on Jan. 23, 2008, when defendant Dawn M. Cooper struck her.
Because of the accident, Johnson sustained injuries to her neck, back, arms, legs and knees; incurred medical costs; suffered pain; lost wages; and experienced a diminished capacity to work, labor and enjoy her ordinary pursuits in life, according to the complaint filed Jan. 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
Cooper negligently failed to keep a careful lookout, failed to properly apply her brakes, drove too fast for road conditions and improperly used lanes of traffic, the suit states.
Johnson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
She will be represented by Justin D. Guerra and Thomas E. Schwartz of Holloran, White and Schwartz in St. Louis.
St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-26.
