A total of six new asbestos lawsuits were filed in Madison County Circuit Court throughout the week of Jan. 4 through Jan. 8.
The following complaints were filed:
--William and Joyce Anderson of Arizona claims William Anderson developed mesothelioma after his work as an insulator at various locations from 1952 until 1979. The Andersons will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-17.
--John and Mary Callahan of Alabama claim John Callahan developed lung cancer after his work in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946, as a steelworker and carpenter at Republic Steel from 1955 until 1956 and as a steelworker and carpenter at USXF and USXE from 1957 until 1982. The Callahans will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-08.
--Carl and Ellen Filus of Michigan claim Carl Filus developed lung cancer after his work as a member of the U.S. Army from 1971 until 1973, as a brake assembler at Chevy Gear and Axle from 1969 until 1970, as a laborer at Metal Coat from 1973 until 1975 and as a service representative from 1976 until 2006. The Filuses will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-2.
--James M. Follis of South Carolina claims his recently deceased father, John S. Follis, developed mesothelioma after his work as a manufacturer of roof tiles for CertainTeed in 1946 and as a millworker and electrician for Nabisco from 1946 until 1982, according to the complaint. John S. Follis was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who worked as a laborer, according to the complaint. James M. Follis will be represented by Elizabeth V. Heller and Robert Rowland of Goldenberg, Heller, Antognoli and Rowland in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-6.
--William M. Keller of Ohio claims his recently deceased father, William Keller, developed mesothelioma after his work as an HVAC maintenance worker at Rockwell International from 1961 until 1969, as a mechanic at Wasserstrom and Sons and as a building superintendent at Ohio Medical Indemnity from the 1970s until 1989. According to the complaint, William Keller also performed a lot of automobile maintenance work and worked around drywall and shingles. William M. Keller will be represented by Randy L. Gori and Barry Julian of Gori, Julian and Associates in Edwardsville. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-09.
--Philip and Linda Paffel of Wisconsin claim Philip Paffel developed mesothelioma after his work as a cook, assembly line worker, laborer and separator at various locations from 1980 until now. Philip Paffel was also secondarily exposed to asbestos fibers through his father, who worked as a mechanic at American Motors from 1955 until 1977, according to the complaint. The Paffels will be represented by Nicholas J. Angelides of Simmons, Browder, Gianaris, Angelides and Barnerd in East Alton. Madison County Circuit Court case number: 10-L-5.
