Bus driver sues Monte Carlo driver over injuries

A bus driver has filed suit against the driver of Chevrolet Monte Carlo, who he says caused him to sustain nervous system injuries after striking him.

Raymond Perruzza claims he was driving a 1998 New Flyer bus north on Homer Adams Parkway near its intersection with Alton Square Mall Drive in Alton on Jan. 14, 2008, at about 10 a.m. when Joseph Nasello, who was driving a 2000 Monte Carlo east on Alton Square Mall Drive, struck his bus.

According to the complaint filed Dec. 23 in Madison County Circuit Court, Perruzza suffered a loss of income, pain, discomfort and physical limitations because of the accident and he incurred medical expenses.

Nasello negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, failed to stop or swerve to avoid a collision and drove too fast, the suit states.

In addition to Nasello, also named as a defendant in the suit is Sarah Walters, who allowed Nasello to borrow her car and allowed him to drive it without keeping it under proper control, the complaint says.

In the two-count suit, Perruzza is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.

Nathan C. Lanter of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-1397.
