A man blames a Hamel store for his fall on a slippery ramp.
Robert Jordan filed a lawsuit Dec. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against Allen Family Corp. doing business as Scotty's Route 66.
Jordan claims that on Dec. 30, 2007, he helped his wife – a Scotty's employee – carry products to the rear of the store by utilizing a ramp Scotty's employees had constructed.
However, while Jordan walked down the slippery ramp, he fell and injured his back, neck and legs, according to the complaint.
Because of his fall, Jordan caused injuries to his back and internal organs, suffered a great deal of pain and mental anguish and required medical services, the suit states.
Jordan blames the store for violating national and state building codes and for building a ramp without brushed concrete, cross cleats, friction strips and non-slip treatment.
Jordan seeks a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Charles H. Stegmeyer of Stegmeyer and Stegmeyer in Belleville will be representing him.
Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-1359.
