A man and his wife have filed suit against the driver who they say ran a red light and collided into them.
Michael and Angela Causey claim Michael Causey was driving west on Fullerton Road at its intersection with North Illinois Avenue in Swansea on Dec. 16, 2007, when David Yearian, who was driving on North Illinois Avenue, ran a red light and collided with Michael Causey.
Because of the accident, Michael and Angela Causey suffered severe and permanent injuries, endured a great deal of pain and emotional suffering and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Dec. 15 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, they endured the loss of a normal life and lost wages, the suit states.
Michael Causey claims he has been deprived of his wife's love, companionship, consortium and society.
Yearian negligently entered into the intersection without first determining that it was safe to do so, entered an intersection while having a red light, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to keep his vehicle under proper control, the complaint says.
In the three-count suit, the Causeys are seeking a judgment of more than $225,000, plus costs.
Eric Kirkpatrick of Kirkpatrick Law Offices in Belleville will be representing them.
