Woman claims accident caused unborn baby's death in suit against drivers

A woman has filed suit against the two drivers who she blames for the death of her unborn baby.

Danielle Renner claims she was a passenger in a vehicle defendant Kenneth R. Renner was driving west on East C Street at its intersection with North Illinois Street in Belleville on Dec. 27, 2007, when the vehicle collided with another car defendant Geraldine E. Hermann was driving east on East C Street.

At the time of the accident, Danielle Renner was eight months pregnant, but lost her baby due to the collision, according to the complaint filed Dec. 14 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

In addition, Danielle Renner sustained serious and disabling injuries to her body, incurred medical costs, experienced great pain, suffering and emotional distress and was unable to carry out her usual activities, the suit states. She also lost wages and has sustained disability and disfigurement, the complaint says.

She blames Hermann and Kenneth Renner for driving too fast, for failing to reduce their speeds to avoid a collision, for failing to keep a sufficient lookout and for failing to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.

In the four-count suit, Danielle Renner is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

Gregory D. Abel, Cindy R. Baum and Coryn I. Steinfeld of Hausmann-McNally in Decatur will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-661.
