Rear-end accident in Alton is subject of suit

A woman claims she received serious and permanent injuries after a driver rear-ended her.

Wanda L. Wilson filed a lawsuit Nov. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Easter Battung.

Wilson claims she drove north on Milton Road near its intersection with Brown Street in Alton on March 21, 2008, when Battung, who drove behind her, struck the rear of Wilson's vehicle.

Because of the accident, Wilson experienced pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and sustained disability, according to the complaint.

Wilson blames Battung for driving in an improper manner, for driving too fast, for disregarding traffic signals, for failing to maintain a proper lookout, for failing to keep her vehicle under control, for failing to keep the steering and brakes of her vehicle in proper order and for failing to keep a reasonable distance between her and the car in front of her. In addition, Battung negligently failed to brake in order to avoid a collision and failed to obey a traffic signal at an intersection, the suit states.

Wilson is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Timothy F. Campbell of Campbell and McGrady in Godfrey will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-1255.
