Edwardsville Road accident is subject of suit

A man has filed suit against the driver who he says attempted to turn in front of him, yet struck him instead.

Lawrence M. Thigpen claims he was driving west on Edwardsville Road near its intersection with Nameoki Road in Granite City on Nov. 30, 2007, when Daisy Matkins, who was driving east on Edwardsville Road near the same intersection, attempted to turn in front of Thigpen and struck him.

Because of the collision, Thigpen suffered injuries to his chest, abdomen, back and knee; endured pain and suffering; and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Nov. 16 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Matkins negligently failed to decrease her speed to avoid a collision, failed to yield the right-of-way to Thigpen's vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout and failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, the suit states.

Thigpen is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

He will be represented by Pete E. Naylor of Hupy and Abraham in Gurnee.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-1228.
