A man says he sustained a head injury and multiple abrasions after two drivers collided at an intersection and crashed into his vehicle while he sat in the left-hand turn lane.
Steven Yuengel filed a lawsuit Nov. 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Larry W. Tribout and Vicki R. Gothard.
Yuengel claims he stopped his 2007 Ford F-150 in the left turn lane of Route 161 as he waited to turn onto Carlyle Avenue in Belleville on Nov. 20, 2007, at about 8:40 a.m.
While Yuengel waited at the intersection, Gothard drove her 1998 Chrysler west on Carlyle Avenue and Tribut attempted to make a left-hand turn in his 1979 Pontiac from Carlyle Avenue, according to the complaint.
Suddenly, Tribut's vehicle hit Gothard's and both hit Yuengel's, the suit states.
In addition to his head injury and multiple abrasions, Yuengel suffered injuries to his neck, jaw, back and extremities and sustained a shock and injury to his entire nervous system. In addition, he suffered great bodily pain and disability and incurred medical costs, the complaint says.
Yuengel blames Tribout for negligently failing to yield the right-of-way to Gothard in disregard of traffic control devices and for failing to keep a proper lookout.
He says Gothard also failed to keep a proper lookout.
In the two-count suit, Yuengel seeks a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
Ralph J. Derango of Belleville will be representing him.
