The trial of personal injury lawsuit stemming from a car accident in Alton opened at trial Monday.

Jury selection took place through the afternoon.

Plaintiff Steven Kirk claims he was injured when another driver ran a stop sign and hit his motorcylce in 2006.

Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla is presiding.

According to his complaint, Kirk's vehicle was struck by defendant Enver Hamiti's when the latter allegedly ran a stop sign, failed to yield and failed to keep a look out.

Kirk seeks damages in excess of $50,000 and costs for his injuries and medical bills.

Hamiti argues that Kirk played a part in the accident.

Hylla entered an order last week deciding a number of pre-trial issues in the case including issues of certain witness testimony.

Kirk is represented by Amy Meyer and Chris Kolker.

Hamiti is represented by Mark Kurz.

The case is Madison County case number 07-L-165.
