Glen Carbon businessman Dwight Kay announced he will run on the Republican ticket for Illinois' 112th district state representative seat in next year's election.
In his announcement, Kay said he would be focusing on bringing jobs to the area, balancing the state's budget and spending, and promoting transparency in government.
He said he will bring "trusted leadership for our region."
Other priorities include tax reform, education and government accountability, he said.
"I think it's time that we take back the statehouse and elect leaders who welcome the opportunity to be accountable to the people they were elected to represent," said Kay, who plans to run against incumbent State Rep. Jay Hoffman, (D-Collinsville.)
Kay ran unsuccessfully against Hoffman in 2008.
