Alton accident is subject of suit

A woman says she was severely injured after a driver failed to yield at a stop sign and slammed into her vehicle.

Amber N. Hosford filed a lawsuit Oct. 19 in Madison County Circuit Court against Shirley Hook.

Hosford claims she was driving east on 20th Street in Alton on Feb. 24 when Hook, who was driving north on Piasa Street, failed to stop for a stop sign and struck Hosford.

Because of the accident, Hosford suffered bruised, crushed and displaced bones, ligaments, nerves, muscles and discs in her neck, back and body, according to the complaint. In addition, she was hindered and prevented from attending to her normal duties and affairs, incurred medical costs and lost large sums of money, the suit states.

Hook negligently failed to yield to Hosford's vehicle, failed to stop at a stop sign and failed to keep a proper lookout, the complaint says.

Hosford is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Joseph E. Hoefert of Alton will be representing Hosford.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-1108.
