A Missouri woman has filed suit against a flooring company over the loss of enjoyment of life she claims she sustained after walking on a foreign substance.
Shirletta Shipp claims she was a visitor at Gateway Regional Medical Center on Jan. 6, the same day defendant Commercial Flooring was working on an unspecified flooring project.
While Shipp was walking on an unmarked area open to the public but filled with a foreign substance, she became sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, although she does not specify the cause of her injuries. In addition, Shipp incurred medical costs; suffered disability, disfigurement and severe emotional damage; experienced pain and suffering; lost wages; and suffered a loss of her enjoyment of life, according to the complaint filed Oct. 6 in Madison County Circuit Court.
Commercial Flooring negligently left an area covered with a foreign substance open to the public, failed to warn of the foreign substance on the floor and failed to protect Shipp from injuring herself on the floor, the suit states.
Shipp is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
She will be represented by Robert C. Nelson of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville.
