Alorton accident is subject of injury suit

A man claims he suffered neck and back injuries after a driver attempted to turn left across his lane of traffic and collided with him.

Leonard Telford filed a lawsuit Oct. 7 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Daniel Carnell.

Telford claims he was driving a 2000 Dodge south on Old Missouri Avenue near its intersection with Greystone Drive in Alorton on March 4 when Carnell, who was driving north on the same road, attempted to turn left on Greystone Drive, but instead struck Telford's vehicle.

Because of the collision, Telford sprained numerous muscles, ligaments, nerves, blood vessels and tendons and became sick, sore, lame and disordered, according to the complaint. In addition, he suffered great pain and anguish, incurred medical costs, suffered internal derangement of his injured body parts and has become prevented from participating in many of his usual daily activities, the suit states.

Telford blames Carnell for negligently failing to keep her vehicle under control, for failing to see Telford's vehicle, for failing to drive at a proper speed, for failing to reduce her speed to avoid a collision and for failing to yield the right-of-way at an intersection.

Telford is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Richard G. Reed of Reed and Bruhn in Belleville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-537.
