Alton District 11 goes to trial over alleged school bus assault

Hylla

Madison County Circuit Judge Dave Hylla will preside over a trial against Alton Community Unit School District 11 involving the alleged assault of a 12 year-old boy on a school bus.

The trial is set to begin at 9 a.m. on Oct. 19.

The suit, brought on behalf of the boy by his father, seeks damages in excess of $50,000 and costs.

According to the complaint, student Huy Kien Nguyen was riding on a bus to the Horace Mann School in Alton on May 13, 2005 when he was allegedly assaulted by several other students.

His father, Thanh Van Nguyen, alleges that the employees of the defendant, the Alton Community Unit School District 11, failed to stop the assault, failed to protect his son, and that the district did not have enough staff to supervise the busload of children.

Hylla is scheduled to start another trial on Oct. 19, in a medical malpractice case involving acne medicine Accutane.

The Nguyens are represented by Robert Gregory of East Alton.

The case is Madison case number 06-L-021.
