The mother of a minor girl blames an Alton landlord for her daughter's left knee fracture after she says her daughter fell down cracked steps.
Elizabeth Stewart, on behalf of her daughter Ashley Stewart, filed a lawsuit Sept. 30 in Madison County Circuit Court against Van A. Long.
Elizabeth Stewart claims her daughter was visiting friends at 1409 Monroe in Alton, which they were renting from Long, on July 4.
While exiting the home, Ashley Stewart fell down broken and cracked steps, causing her left knee fracture, according to the complaint.
Because of her fall, Ashley Stewart suffered pain and disability and incurred medical costs, the suit states.
Elizabeth Stewart blames Long for failing to maintain the steps in a safe condition and for failing to adequately warn of the broken steps.
In the two-count suit, Elizabeth Stewart is seeking a judgment of more than $100,000, plus costs.
Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton will be representing her.
