A St. Clair County man has filed suit against a bar where he says an employee bumped into him, causing him to fall down a flight of stairs.
David Chaffee II claims he was standing near an open door leading to a basement at Emma's Inc. doing business as Stoney's Sports Pub on Feb. 27 when an employee bumped into him, causing Chaffee to fall down the stairs.
Because of his fall, Chaffee was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, suffered injuries to his back, head and neck and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed Sept. 28 in St. Clair County Circuit Court. In addition, he suffered disability and experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.
Emma's negligently failed to close the door leading to the basement and failed to warn Chaffee of the dangerous condition, the complaint says.
Chaffee is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.
Van Lear P. Eckert of Williams, Caponi, Foley and Eckert in Belleville will be representing him.
