Highland rear-end accident is subject of suit

A man claims his neck, back and shoulder were severely and permanently injured after a woman rear-ended him.

Douglas L. Missey filed a lawsuit July 29 in Madison County Circuit Court against Kayla M. Drummond.

Missey claims he was stopped on Route 143 facing south at its intersection with Sportsman Road in Highland on Aug. 21 when Drummond crashed into the back of his vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Missey has experienced physical pain and suffering, incurred medical costs and lost large sums of money because of his inability to work, according to the complaint.

He blames Drummond for failing to stop to avoid a collision, for driving too fast, for failing to keep a proper lookout and for failing to keep her vehicle under control.

Missey is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus costs.

Stephen M. Kernan of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville will be representing him.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-790.
