Route 140 accident is subject of suit

A man has filed suit against the driver of a vehicle he says is responsible for causing a rear-end collision.

Lucas J. McKenney claims he was driving west on Illinois Route 140 near its intersection with Route 111 in Bethalto on Sept. 3, 2007, when Cloretta A. Robinson, who was driving in the same direction, rear-ended him.

Because of the accident, McKenney experienced serious and permanent injury, pain, suffering and permanent disability and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint filed July 17 in Madison County Circuit Court.

Robinson negligently drove in an improper and careless manner, drove too fast, disregarded traffic signs and signals, failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under control, failed to keep her steering wheel in proper working order and failed to swerve to avoid striking another car, the complaint says.

In addition, Robinson failed to keep the brakes of the vehicle in proper working order, followed another vehicle too closely, failed to brake in order to avoid a collision and failed to obey a traffic signal at an intersection, the suit states.

McKenney is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus court costs.

He is represented by Timothy F. Campbell of Campbell and McGrady in Godfrey.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-736.
