Mother claims daughter was made sick, sore and lame in vehicular accident

The mother of a minor child has filed suit against the driver of a vehicle in which she and her daughter were riding and the driver of another vehicle that collided with them.

Kathy Corn, mother of Sara Corn, says her daughter was riding in a vehicle defendant Bethany G. Eschmann was driving west on West A Street at its intersection with Third Street in Belleville on Feb. 23.

Suddenly, Eschmann pulled out into oncoming traffic and was struck by a vehicle defendant Dhawesuk Na Tang was driving south on North Third Street after he failed to stop at a red flashing signal, according to the complaint filed July 13 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

As a result of the collision, Sara Corn was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled, received injuries to her neck and back and incurred medical costs, the complaint says. She also suffered disability and experienced pain and suffering, the suit states.

Kathy Corn claims Eschmann and Tang negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, drove their vehicles in such a way that caused a collision, failed to properly apply their brakes, drove too fast for traffic on the road and failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic.

In the four-count suit, Kathy Corn is seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

Thomas C. Rich and Jennifer L. Barbieri of the law office of Thomas C. Rich in Fairview Heights will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-373.
