A Collinsville woman is asking St. Clair County Circuit Court to award her damages after she fell on a puddle of water near an ice machine in Schnuck Markets.

Tanja M. Zucha filed a lawsuit July 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Schnuck Markets.

Zucha says she was a customer of the store located at 501 Beltline Rd. in Collinsville on July 7, 2007, when she slipped and fell near the ice machine.

Because of the incident, Zucha was severely and permanently injured, experienced physical and mental pain and anguish and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. Her earning capacity has also been damaged, the suit states.

Schnuck Markets negligently failed to maintain the premises in a safe condition, failed to warn customers about the presence of water on the floor, failed to inspect the premises for the accumulaion of foreign substances, failed to place floor mats near the ice machine and failed to remove water, the complaint says.

Zucha is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus costs.

Thomas B. Cannady of Keehner, Cannady and Katz in Shiloh will be representing her.
