Multi-car crash in Belleville is subject of suit

Two people have filed suit against the drivers of two separate vehicles, alleging they sustained injuries in a multi-car collision in Belleville.

Lisa Rosenkranz and Danny Rosenkranz, as guardian of Crystal Moulton, a minor, say Lisa Rosenkranz and Moulton were passengers in a vehicle traveling on Dutch Hollow Road at its intersection with Illinois State Route 161 in Belleville on Aug. 12, 2007.

Suddenly, defendant Ashley Hughes, who was driving west on Illinois State Route 161, failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into the back of defendant Rose Wiley's vehicle. In turn, the impact caused Wiley to collide with the side of the vehicle in which Rosenkranz and Moulton were riding, according to the complaint filed July 1 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Lisa Rosenkranz and Moulton were made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and suffered extensive injuries to their heads, bodies, limbs, necks and backs, the suit states. In addition, they received injuries to the soft tissues of their cervical, shoulder and lumbar areas, incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, the complaint says.

Moulton also received injuries to her hand, Danny Rosenkranz claims.

Wiley and Hughes negligently failed to keep proper lookouts, failed to keep their vehicles under proper control, failed to properly apply their brakes, failed to reduce their speed when they were approaching and crossing an intersection and failed to stop at the stop sign, the Rosenkranzes claim.

In the four-count suit, the plaintiffs are seeking a judgment of more than $200,000, plus costs.

They are represented by James R. Williams of Williams, Caponi, Foley and Eckert in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-350.
