Granite City man sued over DUI-related accident

A woman and her husband are suing a Granite City man over injuries they say the woman sustained after the man hit her while he was driving under the influence.

Sharon F. and Charles Daniele filed a lawsuit April 16 in Madison County Circuit Court against Eric T. Carney.

They say Sharon Daniele was driving south on Mockingbird Lane in Pontoon Beach on Oct. 26 when Carney, who was turning left into a residence at 2705 Mockingbird Lane, hit her.

Immediately after the collision, Carney fled on foot and was later arrested at 3627 Highway 162 in Granite City where he was charged with driving under the influence, failure to give aid, failure to yield turning left, leaving the scene of an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and no insurance, the complaint says.

Because of the accident, Sharon Daniele incurred medical expenses, experienced pain and suffering, lost her normal life, suffered disability, has an increased risk of future harm and lost wages, the suit states.

Her vehicle sustained unknown damages of less than $50,000, Sharon Daniele says.

Since the accident, Charles Daniele says he lost Sharon Daniele's society, consortium, companionship, love, affection and support.

In the three-count suit, the Danieles are seeking a judgment in excess of $150,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.

Stephen B. Evans of Evans Partnership in St. Louis will be representing them.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-390.
