Swansea woman claims injuries in auto accident

A Swansea woman is filing suit against a Belleville woman over severe injuries she says she sustained in an accident.

Angelia Gomez filed a lawsuit on April 17 in St. Clair County Circuit Court against Sarah Boyle.

Gomez says she was riding as a passenger in a 2003 Hyundai Elantra Boyle was driving west on Emerald Road in Irish Township on July 27 when the incident occurred.

At the time, Boyle drove the Elantra over a hill when it became airborne, causing her to lose control and overturn the vehicle, the suit states.

Because of the accident, Gomez says she was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and received injuries to the soft tissues of her cervical, thoracic and lumbar area. She also incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering and lost wages, according to the complaint.

Boyle failed to reduce her speed, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep her vehicle under proper control, failed to stop or swerve to avoid an accident and drove too fast for the circumstances, the complaint says.

Gomez is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

David C. Nelson of Nelson and Nelson in Belleville will be representing her.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-199.
