Painter sues employer over stairwell accident

A painter has filed suit against his employer, alleging he sustained serious injuries when he fell down a stairwell.

Ronald Lloyd Little claims he was working for Stone Ledge Homes spraying the ceiling of the garage in a home at 116 Highway 138 in Benld on July 10, 2007, when he fell into a stairwell opening, according to the complaint filed April 9 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the fall, Little sustained severe injuries to his neck, left shoulder and right knee and suffered disfigurement, disability, increased risk of future harm from the injuries, the suit states. He also says he incurred medical bills and lost wages.

Stone Ledge Homes was negligent by failing to provide a barrier around the stairwell, by failing to warn individuals about the open stairwell, by failing to provide a cover or barrier over the stairwell and by failing to properly inspect the open stairwell.

In the two-count suit, Little is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

He is represented by Jeffrey A. Kopis of Kopis Law Office in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-185.
