Collinsville High School parking lot accident caused injuries, suit claims

A man is suing the father of a minor woman over injuries he says he suffered during a collision that was caused as she was pulling out of a high school parking lot.

Kerry A. Douglas filed suit against Steven Perry, the father of Sarah Perry, on April 8 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Douglas says he was driving west on South Morrison at its intersection with the entrance to Collinsville High School in Collinsville on Aug. 18 at about 3:50 p.m. when Sarah Perry, who was making a left turn from the high school onto South Morrison, ran a stop sign and hit him.

Because of the collision, Douglas says he was made sick, sore, lame, disordered and disabled and suffered extensive injuries to his head, body, limbs, shoulder and neck. He also incurred medical costs, suffered disability, experienced pain and suffering, lost money and suffered an impairment of his future earning capacity, according to the complaint.

Sarah Perry failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to apply her brakes, drove too fast, failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and drove without adequate brakes, the suit states.

Douglas is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

John H. Hustava of Collinsville will be representing him.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-180.
