A Collinsville woman has filed suit against Gregory and Musick Dermatology and one of its doctors, alleging her basal cell carcinoma went undiagnosed.
Mary Skhra claims she visited Dr. James Gregory on Sept. 21, 2005, for treatment of a "pot" mark on her left cheek.
Skhra returned to the office for a follow-up visit on May 1, 2007, but the pot mark appeared the same size, depth and diameter, according to the complaint filed March 31 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
On May 8, 2007, Skhra was diagnosed with morpheic basal cell carcinoma of the left cheek, the suit states.
Because of Gregory's alleged failure to diagnose her, Skhra claims she had to endure additional surgery and suffered disability and disfigurement. She also incurred medical costs, experienced pain and suffering and suffered a loss of enjoyment of life, according to the complaint.
Gregory and his office were negligent by failing to diagnose the cancer and by failing to refer Skhra to other physicians for the cancer's treatment, the suit states.
In the two-count suit, Skhra is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.
