East Alton accident is subject of suit

A South Roxana woman has filed suit against a Wood River woman, alleging she was injured after the woman rear-ended her.

Karen L. Hartley was stopped in her 1995 Ford Windstar at a red light at the intersection of St. Louis Avenue and Illinois Route 3 in East Alton on July 31, 2007, when Danielle N. Propst struck the back of her vehicle, according to the complaint filed March 26 in Madison County Circuit Court.

The collision caused Hartley to collide with the rear-end of Staci R. Slkwood, the suit states.

Because of the collision, Hartley claims she sustained temporary and permanent injuries, incurred medical costs and has been prevented from attending to her usual duties and affairs.

Propst was negligent by failing to keep a proper lookout, by failing to reduce her speed to avoid a collision, by failing to exercise proper control over her vehicle and by failing to brake, according to the complaint.

Hartley is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.

She is represented by Lanny Darr of Schrempf, Kelly, Napp and Darr in Alton.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-308.
