Injured passenger sues drivers involved in accident

A woman claims she was seriously injured while she was riding in a car that was involved in a collision.

Melinda Coffey claims she was riding in a vehicle driven by Mallory Melvin on Schlueter Germane Road when she collided with Samantha Kaitlyn Ball, according to the complaint filed March 24 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Coffey experienced pain, suffering, disability and disfigurement, incurred medical expenses and sustained past and future loss of income, the suit states.

She also claims she sustained loss of a normal life and has an increased risk of injury.

Both Melvin and Ball were negligent by failing to keep a proper lookout, by failing to drive within the proper lane of travel, by driving too fast and by driving into the path of another vehicle, according to the complaint.

In the two-count suit, Coffey is seeking a judgment in excess of $100,000, plus costs.

She is represented by Daniel K. Juncker of Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-154.
