Woman claims injuries in Route 4 accident

A Madison County woman is suing a St. Clair County man, saying she was injured after he collided with the car in which she was riding.

Tammy Schulte filed suit March 17 against Karl Mandl, claiming she was riding in a car driven by Edward Schulte traveling west on the I-70 ramp to Illinois Route 4 on June 19, 2007, when the collision occurred.

Mandl was entering Illinois Route 4 north from the westbound I-70 entrance ramp when he entered into the lane in which the Schultes were traveling and caused the accident, according to the complaint filed in Madison County Circuit Court.

Because of the collision, Tammy Schulte claims her right shoulder, head, face, stomach and right knee were seriously bruised, contused, lacerated, cut, torn, swollen, aggravated, ruptured, mashed, wrenched, narrowed, compressed, subluxed, abraded, dislocated, strained, sprained and rendered stiff, sore and painful.

She also suffered great physical pain and mental anguish, experienced impaired functioning of her body and incurred medical expenses in excess of $50,000, according to the complaint.

Mandl drove too fast, failed to keep a lookout to his front and to his side, failed to warn of his approach and failed to yield the right-of-way, the suit states.

Schulte is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs and other relief the court deems appropriate.

Earl Hubb of Brown and Crouppen in St. Louis will be representing her.

Madison County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0264.
