The wife of a deceased man has filed suit against Saint Anthony's Health Center, St. Louis Cardiology Consultants, St. Louis Neurological Institute and two doctors, alleging her husband died after doctors left a sponge inside him.
Artrischia Kingery claims her husband, John J. Kingery, experienced an infection, elevated blood pressures and a massive stroke after doctors left the sponge in his pacemaker insertion site on April 4, 2007.
Doctors also failed to administer PTA in a timely manner and failed to lower John J. Kingery's elevated blood pressure, according to the complaint Artrischia Kingery filed March 5 in Madison County Circuit Court.
The two doctors named as defendants in the suit are Dr. Robert G. Lutan and Dr. Carlos Yu.
Because of the doctors' alleged negligence, John J. Kingery suffered pain, disability, disfigurement, loss of enjoyment of a normal life and incurred medical costs, the suit states.
As a result of his injuries, John J. Kingery died on July 13, 2008, Artriscia Kingery alleges.
In the 15-count suit, Artrischia Kingery is seeking a judgment in excess of $750,000, plus costs.
She is represented by Joseph A. Bartholomew of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville.
