Wal-Mart customer slips on wet arrow, suit claims

A woman has filed suit against Wal-Mart, alleging she was seriously injured after she slipped on a wet painted arrow in the store's parking lot.

Sandra Schneider was exiting the Belleville Wal-Mart on June 28, 2007, when she slipped on the arrow, according to the complaint filed Feb. 26 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

Because of her fall, Schneider sustained injuries to her back and knee, experienced great pain and mental anguish and has lost large sums of money because of her inability to pursue her normal occupation, the suit states.

She also claims she incurred substantial medical costs.

Wal-Mart was negligent by failing to warn customers about dangerous conditions, by failing to maintain the premises in a safe condition, by failing to put abrasive in the paint used in the parking lot and by failing to inspect the area where Wal-Mart knew customers would be walking, according to the complaint.

Schneider is seeking compensatory and punitive damages in excess of $50,000 but less than $75,000, plus costs.

She is represented by Matthew A. Marison of Cook, Ysursa, Bartholomew, Brauer and Shevlin in Belleville.

St. Clair County Circuit Court case number: 09-L-0106.
