Terri L. Schmidt has filed suit against Ryan J. Hawthorne, alleging she was injured after he rear-ended her.
Schmidt was driving south on Edwardsville Road in Madison on Jan. 25, 2007, at about 9:15 p.m. when the incident occurred, according to the complaint filed Jan. 23 in Madison County Circuit Court.
When Schmidt slowed to let a car in front of her turn, Hawthorne hit the rear of her car, the suit states.
Because of the accident, Schmidt claims she suffered mental and physical injuries and mental anguish, incurred medical expenses and lost wages.
Hawthorne was negligent by failing to reduce the speed of his vehicle to avoid an accident, by failing to keep a proper lookout for other vehicles on the road and by failing to keep his vehicle under control, according to the complaint.
Schmidt is seeking a judgment in excess of $50,000, plus costs.
