A Mississippi woman has filed suit against a St. Clair County woman, alleging she was injured after a collision in which the St. Clair County woman was under the influence of drugs.
Carla Drayton was approaching a green stoplight on Illinois Route 157 at its intersection with East Lake Drive in Centreville and was driving through the light when she was struck by Jaqueline K. Obermiller on Jan. 16, 2007, according to the complaint filed Jan. 16 in St. Clair County Circuit Court.
After hitting Drayton, Obermiller fled the scene of the accident in her car, the suit states.
Then, Obermiller hopped out of her car and fled on foot for about one block before she was captured, Drayton claims.
Medical tests revealed Obermiller had the presence of opiates, cannabis and cocaine in her blood, according to the complaint.
Obermiller pled guilty to driving under the influence, the suit states.
Because of the collision, Drayton claims she suffered damage to her car, plus physical injuries.
She also incurred medical expenses and lost income.
In the three-count suit, Drayton is seeking unspecified damages, plus costs and other relief the court deems just.
She is represented by John Turner of Belleville.
